Studies have shown that participating in music and the other fine arts have beneficial effects on people’s health and well-being. Unfortunately, East Gainesville does not have many opportunities for residents to learn the fine arts, especially affecting the youth due to cuts to the education budget for the arts. First United Methodist Church of Gainesville is opening its doors to provide a place for residents of East Gainesville to take private instruction with a variety of musical instruments regardless of their age or musical ability.

We are also reaching out to East Gainesville residents and schools to identify any students who may benefit from private lessons even if they might not have the financial means. Depending on need, these students could receive a First Arts scholarship to cover most of the monthly cost. Please help us identify potential students who may benefit from this opportunity.

You are invited to attend a “meet-and’greet” with instructors on Sunday, August 25 at 5:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

For Fall 2019, lessons will be available to children, youth, and adults on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with instructors currently available for flute, piano, voice, and cello. Next Spring, we hope to expand our pool of instructors and increase lesson availability to Monday though Thursday.
