Director of Communications and Community Engagement

 The First United Methodist Church of Gainesville, Florida is seeking for immediate hire, a full-time Director of Communications and Community Engagement.

Communications duties will include creation and management of a communications strategy and system which encourages a consistent experience across multiple touch points, including website, print, promotions, social media, design, video, brand management and media relations. The Director will produce a weekly worship guide, weekly email update, social media and print marketing for ministries and special events as well as graphic design of logos for ministries/events.

Community Engagement duties will include, with the support of lay people and staff, creating and implementing ministries that provide culturally relevant opportunities for people to experience and connect with Christ, both on and beyond the campus of First United Methodist Church. The Director will build relationships with community individuals and groups by marketing the availability of meeting space as well as providing a hospitable environment to them while on our campus. The Director will also seek out partnerships with community individuals and groups to plan/execute new ministries together, as well as facilitate First United Methodist Church’s presence at various community events.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or related fields is preferred. Experience may substitute for a degree. Must be able to demonstrate strong computer skills as well as excellent written/oral communication skills. Experience and proficiency with design software currently in use at First United Methodist Church: Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop; Adobe Premier is a plus. Experience and proficiency with email marketing software including Constant Contact and MailChimp, as well as Google Analytics, WordPress and Squarespace is desired. Experience working in a church environment is also preferred.

The candidate must possess the ability to work independently and as a team member, as well as deal with people in a professional and Christian manner. The Director of Communications and Community Engagement reports directly to the Pastor.
