CHILDREN & FAMILY MINISTRY
FUMC Gainesville is a welcoming church home where children and families experience God’s love while becoming a part of a larger faith family. We offer a variety of ministries for newborns through 5th grade including Sunday School, music and drama, VBS, and much more.
Each summer, FUMC joins together with Holy Trinity Episcopal church to provide the community with a fun Vacation Bible School Experience. This summer we presented VBS 2018: AMPED - Live fully alive! Jesus wants us to live fully alive because we can believe that what He says is true! We want kids to know that:
• God is with you.
• God has a plan for you.
• Jesus is alive!
• You are part of a bigger story.

This year VBS was June 18 - 22 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at First United Methodist
Each Sunday morning at 9:45 a.m., children Kindergarten - 5th grade join together for a time of singing and lessons. FUMC uses Cokesbury's "Deep Blue" one-room Sunday School curriculum to teach our children the great stories of our faith, always focusing on the amazing grace offered through Jesus.
For our littlest ones, the nursery is open beginning at 9:30 a.m. through the conclusion of 11:00 a.m. worship. The nursery implements Deep Blue for babies-preschoolers, as well.
Children are more than welcomed to be in worship, they are encouraged to be there! We offer a worship backpack each week filled with activities that connect with the scripture lesson being taught in worship. Every first Sunday our children remain with their families for the entire worship experience so all generations are able to learn, grow and receive communion together.
Other Sundays, children worship with their families until they are invited up front to join one of our volunteers who shares a "kid-sized" version of the sermon. After this special time, kids may go with her and other adult volunteers for more faith building fun together!
Our goal is that families will always leave church having something meaningful to discuss from worship around the lunch table and throughout the week! Giving families a shared-language of faith is priority for us here at FUMC!
At FUMC we value children as an integral part of our worshiping community. We encourage children to serve along side the grown-ups. Children can serve as acolytes, ushers, greeters, as well as sing, and play chimes.
Boy Scout Troop 84 has been active at our church since 1928! We have a fantastic Scout Cabin on our campus as well as a vibrant Cub Scout pack. Our Girl Scout Troops meet at FUMC too! Select the option below to learn more about the Boy and Girl Scouts.
